Biblical People

Biblical People is a separate study space for exploring when supported Bible characters lived and how their recorded family relationships connect. It lets you move through the lineage without crowding the Scripture Reader or Study Lens.

What Biblical People does

• Timeline compares supported lifespans and shows which people were alive during the selected person’s life.
• Relationships places the selected person between their supported parent and child, then lets you move through the family line.

The current Preview uses a source-reviewed group of 22 people. Some dates are calculated from recorded genealogies, some are approximate or disputed, and some information is not yet included.

When you might use it

• See who was alive during Adam’s life.
• Compare the relative length and overlap of recorded lifespans.
• Follow a supported family line one generation at a time.
• Jump directly back to an earlier ancestor.
• Preview the Scripture used as evidence for a date or relationship.

Where to find Biblical People

1. Open the main GospelGrasp menu.
2. Tap Biblical People.

The first control combines search and browsing. Enter a name in Search people, or tap Browse on the right to choose one of the plain-language groups currently available. The selected person’s information appears below this control.

See it in GospelGrasp

The Preview badge opens an explanation of the current data scope. Use it to review what has been source-checked and why some people, dates, or relationships may still be missing.

Find a person

Enter a supported name in Search people, such as Adam, Enoch, Elijah, or Jesus, then choose a result. Browse currently offers Genesis generations, Elijah, and Jesus. These groups describe available data; they are not a complete list of biblical eras.

When GospelGrasp cannot support a calendar placement, it says so instead of placing the person on a made-up date axis.

Use the Timeline

The Timeline keeps the selected person highlighted and compares them with other supported people in the same collection.

• Horizontal position shows when a supported life falls on the date scale.
• Line length shows the recorded or reviewed lifespan.
• A small label gives the lifespan when it can be supported.
• Faded or dotted ends indicate an approximate date window.

Special endings do not treat every person as a natural death. Enoch and Elijah can be marked Taken. Jesus uses an approximate historical lifespan and a compact moments control for death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. Tap that control to open the recorded sequence, which is intentionally not drawn to the lifespan scale.

Follow Relationships

Tap Relationships to open the connected lineage view.

• The selected person appears in the center.
• A supported parent appears on the left.
• A supported child appears on the right.
• Scripture evidence appears beneath the relationship when available.

Tap a parent or child card to make that person the new focus. You can also swipe left toward a supported child or right toward a supported parent. Each swipe moves exactly one supported generation. The family cards follow your finger inside the relationship panel while the panel stays in place. Swipe again to continue forward, or use Active Lineage to jump directly back to an earlier supported ancestor.

There is no separate person-history back button. Use the relationship cards, one-generation swipes, or Active Lineage to move through the family line.

At the beginning or end of a supported line, GospelGrasp leaves the missing side open. It does not draw an empty person card or imply that the person had no other family members.

Choose among several children

When reviewed data supplies more than one child, the right side becomes a stacked Children card rather than choosing a branch for you.

1. Tap the Children card, or swipe left.
2. Swipe sideways through the child choices.
3. Tap a child to continue down that branch.

The chooser shows dates only where available. Large families retain part of the next card as a swipe cue, and View all opens the complete list. The chosen branch remains identified during the current visit; it does not claim that child is the only child.

Jump through the active lineage

The Active Lineage row shows the supported path from the earliest visible ancestor to the current person. Tap any earlier name to jump directly back to that person instead of moving one generation at a time.

Read the profile and Scripture evidence

The open profile card can include a reviewed summary, chronology notes, and Scripture pills. Scroll inside the card when needed.

Tap a Scripture pill to open the standard passage preview. Tap Open in Reader to continue in Scripture. Closing the preview returns to the same person and relationship context.

Understand Preview information

Preview means the feature is usable but its character coverage is limited. It does not mean every biblical person, date, event, or family relationship has been reviewed.

• Recorded information comes from the reviewed passage.
• Computed placement is arithmetic derived from a supplied genealogy.
• Approximate or disputed dates have multiple defensible endpoints.
• Not recorded means the reviewed sources do not establish the detail.

GospelGrasp leaves unsupported information unavailable instead of filling gaps with an AI-generated biography or unsupported date.

What GospelGrasp saves or syncs

Biblical People does not currently save or sync the selected person, mode, active lineage, or chosen branch. These choices are temporary for the current visit. Opening a passage in the Reader can update your normal reading position after you begin reading there.

Requirements and limits

• The 22-person Preview and reviewed evidence are included with the app.
• Scripture previews use Bible text available to GospelGrasp; a selected translation may need previously downloaded or cached text.
• The Preview is not a complete genealogy of every person in Scripture.
• A missing relationship describes current coverage, not proof that no relationship existed.
• People with unavailable or incompatible chronology are not forced onto an axis.
• Approximate ranges are visual study aids, not exact-year claims.

If something does not work

A person does not appear

The person may not be in the 22-person Preview. Clear search and use Browse to review supported groups.

A person has no date axis

The reviewed sources may not establish calendar placement. Read the profile’s chronology note for what is available.

Relationships says none are included

That person’s reviewed relationships are not yet part of the Preview. This is not a claim that the person had no relationships.

Swiping does not change the person

Swipe mostly horizontally inside the relationship card. If several supported children appear, choose a branch first. At an endpoint, use Active Lineage to jump back.

A Scripture pill has no text

Try Open in Reader or another translation available on the device. Report the reference through Support if it remains unavailable.

Common questions

Is this the character graph in Study Lens?

No. Study Lens follows the Scripture you are reading. Biblical People is a separate destination for chronology, lineage navigation, and deeper character exploration.

Why are some dates precise and others ranges?

Genesis genealogy dates can be computed on their supplied scale. Other people may have approximate historical windows or no defensible calendar placement.

Will more details be added?

That is the intended direction. Additional people, events, journeys, trials, and relationships require sourced review before GospelGrasp presents them as character-study information.
